Federal law prohibits discrimination on the basis of gender, race, national origin, age, pregnancy or disability. We will defend the rights of those who are victims of such discrimination. We also advocate for the preservation of all citizens' right to vote, as well as individual First Amendment rights to free speech and assembly and the other guarantees of individual freedom and fairness protected by the Bill of Rights. As the Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr. explained: "Injustice anywhere is a threat to justice everywhere." We must do more to implement the principles and values of the United States Constitution, and the legal system can be an effective tool for this purpose. We are a long way from achieving the equality of citizenship promised by the Declaration of Independence, but every step taken toward that goal remains important. For more of Rev. Martin Luther King, Jr.'s wisdom, see: For information about federal employment discrimination laws, see the website of the U.S. Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC): For Hawai'i state government civil rights protection information, see the website of the Hawai'i Civil Rights Commission: For Voter Owned Hawai'i is a non-profit organization dedicated to transforming the political campaign system from one dominated by private funds to a full public funding system that is more accountable to the broader public interest.
